A whole town celebrates the return of a dog that was “kidnapped”.

The little dog from the town of Santa Barbara, in the department of Antioquia (Colombia), which had been “lost” in another community for eight days, was found to the joy of the citizens. The discovery of the dog caused such a commotion in the municipality that when he arrived back to his home he was welcomed with a big celebration as a celebrity.

Beethoven is the town’s mascot and had been missing for more than a week, but – thanks to the complaints and persistence of the inhabitants of Antioquia – a truck driver reported seeing the ‘four-legged friend’ in another vehicle on his way to Valle del Cauca.

According to the story, Beethoven left town following a couple of migrants, and although it was only for a few blocks, when someone from the town asked them, the couple said they would take him to take him to the bathroom and hairdresser, after this nothing was heard of the dog, only that the couple would be asking for money to return him. Jaime León López, director of the animal protection foundation Amores Callejeros, became aware of the case and made posters that he spread on social networks and pasted on poles. Other municipalities reported that they saw him, but he did not want to eat and continued on his way.

But that was not all, rescuing the dog required a whole logistics; Jaime traveled to La Pintada, Antioquia, then to Supía where and ended up in the city of Manizales, asking for him at the police command. Right there, a patrolman notified him that the dog had been seen in a tractor-trailer in the company of migrants. The Manizales Police launched the alert at the height of the municipality of Tuluá, where the driver of another tractor-trailer was the one who notified the Police, when he saw them passing through the mentioned municipality.

With this indication, the Manizales Police sent the message to the department of Valle, where they managed to identify Beethoven near the municipality of Tuluá. The driver of another tractor-trailer was the one who notified the police when he saw them passing through the mentioned municipality.

Apparently, Beethoven was thrown from a car when he was a puppy, eight years ago, and since then he has been roaming the streets playing with children. Although he has no fixed home, he usually sleeps on the benches in the main park.

He became the town’s mascot, and although a neighbor decided to adopt him from a farm, the dog became depressed and only became the same when he was taken back to the park in freedom.

The reunion
After his return to Santa Barbara, citizens from Medellin and other parts of the country have offered to give him a location chip, collars and veterinary care.
“Everyone wants him, from the mayor to the priest,” says Jaime. The fact caused such a stir in the municipality that when he arrived back home he was received like a celebrity.
