What about the man who doesn’t know how to spend money?

I met a man, we are both in our 30s. I liked him in many ways, he makes surprises, gives gifts, he is not greedy. But, as it turned out, there is another side to it.

He earns good money, is not lazy at all, does hard work. But at the same time he is unable or unwilling to plan his finances. As a result, he has never even owned his own car. What’s more, he can squander his entire large salary, knowing that his parents will help him if anything happens.

But I don’t see how he can rely on his parents, he already wants to start his own family. He wants children in the future, too. In order to do that, he has to become more responsible.

Is there any way to encourage him to do this? We will not live together until we get married (if it ever happens). I’ve already directly told him my opinion, he kind of does not argue, but it feels like he does not particularly want to part with the usual benefits, to limit themselves. And even for himself, it turns out, his salary is not enough.

What do you advise?
