So, listen to this, mateId just finished my evening workout, right? As I left the gym I checked my phone and saw seven missed calls from Mum, which is honestly classic her. Then I noticed a text: Call me back! It was nearly eleven, but I thought, okay, better give her a ring or shell stay up worrying and probably rope Dad into pacing around as well. She sounded really upset, asked me to come over, and then told me the wedding might be off. She was sobbingproper emotional.
My sister, Charlotte, is twenty-three, just starting out as a designer, and actually doing really well for herself. She graduated last year, landed a job almost immediately because shed interned at a local design firm in Manchester, and they snatched her up after seeing her work. Before all this, everyone looked up to herher career was flying, personal life seemed perfect.
Charlottes been with Oliver for just over a year. Hes a bit older, twenty-six, and living on his own, working, saving up to buy his own place. Mum absolutely liked himsaid he was so polite and always remembered her birthday and brought flowers. About two weeks ago, they sorted the paperwork at the registry office in Manchester. The weddings setjust a couple of weeks to go.
Anyway, out of the blue, Charlotte gets messaged on Facebook by some woman. This ladyher names Grace, probably early fortiessaid something like, We dont know each other, but theres something you should find out before your wedding. Charlotte was a bit doubtful, checked the womans profile, saw she looked completely normal, but didnt think much of it. But then Grace started messaging her from different accountsInstagram, WhatsApp and so on. Eventually, they agreed to meet at a coffee shop around the corner from Charlottes workplace.
Mum was fumingshe actually slapped Charlotte and said to never entertain these sorts of meetings again. Anyway, Charlottes sat there waiting, and in walks this heavily pregnant woman. At first, Charlotte thought she was just a customer but the woman headed straight for her. Turns out, it was Grace, but she introduced herself as Emily.
Emily sits down and says, Are you Charlotte? Im Emily. Ive actually been seeing Oliver for over a year, and were expecting a baby boy in about four months. Can you imagine? Charlotte thought it was a complete wind-up, thought Emily must be joking or trying to ruin her happiness. She tried to keep it together but didnt believe a word of it. Emily didnt push, just quietly left her number and said, If you ever want a chat or need answers, call me. You can ask Oliver too.
So, what did Oliver have to say? Well, this is where things get messy. See, Charlotte always said she wanted to save herself for marriage, so their relationship was all hugs and kisses, nothing more. Shes never been much into the party scene eitherMum raised us with a stack of books and Victorian values, bless her. Honestly, even I was a bit surprised. Shes clever, sociable, always out with matesI never pictured her being so old-fashioned.
Oliver, though, had a bit more worldly experience. Apparently, he decided to have a casual thing to fill his needs, and met Emily at some event. From the start, he made it clear he wasnt interested in anything serious. Emily, at the time, had just split from her husband, had a little girl, got decent child support, and managed work pretty well. She didnt mind the age gap or Oliver’s intentions at first.
But now, Emilys pregnant, and Oliver says hell do a DNA test once the baby’s here. If hes the dad, hell help financially. He actually told Charlotte it was her faultsaid hes a healthy young bloke and she was holding onto her middle ages standards,” so what did she expect? I mean, you cant make this up.
No one saw Emily comingno idea whats going to happen next. Oliver wants Charlotte to forgive him, says he only needed Emily physically, and if Charlotte hadnt been so stubborn, he never wouldve looked elsewhere. But now Emilys keeping the baby, and Olivers offered her money for an abortion, which shes refused. He says he’ll pay child support if it is his, but doesnt intend to be involved with the kid.
So, honestly, do you reckon Olivers entirely to blame? Was it his male urges getting the better of him, or do you think Charlotte should leave him, because cheatings never excusableeven if there’s no intimacy? Im totally gobsmacked by the whole thing, and honestly, I dont think Charlotte should stick around for this drama. What do you think?
