My husband won’t let me give my daughter my apartment

My husband inherited an apartment from my aunt. It’s small, but it’s almost in the center of our city.

We have three children. The oldest daughter is 19 years old. She’s in college. My sons are 13 and 6. We live in a nice two-bedroom apartment. At the moment there is enough room for everyone.

My husband and I are almost quarreling over this inheritance. I propose to send my daughter to live there. She is a mature and independent girl, and will soon be starting her own family. My husband thinks it’s unfair to his sons, and he wants to sell the apartment and divide the money equally among our three children. I think this option is completely unreasonable. The sums would be such that it would be impossible to buy separate housing for all the children. While the younger children are growing up, the money will just lie in the accounts. And the eldest daughter will only be able to buy a car. I think it’s better to have a bird in the hand… Let at least one child be provided with housing, and the age of the boys can solve the problem later.

My husband thinks that in the future there will be no peace between my brothers and sister because of this apartment. I’m sure everything will be fine, the boys don’t really understand the whole situation, and in time it will be possible to do something for the sons.

My daughter has not been privy to our conversations and thoughts. We want to make the decision ourselves first. Also, my husband is against my option, because the apartment needs major repairs if you move there to live, and the finances at the moment we do not quite enough.

I want to hear an opinion from the outside, how best to do. Is it worth it to convince my husband or to give up and take his side? Maybe there is some other option that I do not see?
