I absolutely adore my son and ever since he was born, Ive done everything in my power to give him the best in life.
Honestly, both my wife and I have always made sure he never missed out on anything. He wore lovely clothes, took part in all sorts of after-school clubs we paid forreally, whatever he fancied, we made it happen. Still, he was never spoilt about it; he always treated me and his mum with respect.
I work all hours, day and night, to provide for him, but I dont mind in the slightest. No matter how busy work gets, I always find time for him whenever he needs me.
Hes always been a brilliant lad and I knew, sooner or later, hed start showing interest in girls. Me and his mum were ready for that day to come, and, sure enough, it did! Mind you, it happened a bit earlier than wed expected, but we welcomed his girlfriend into our lives with open arms. The only thing we asked was that he bring her round for dinner. He didnt kick up a fuss at allactually, he suggested it himself the next time she could join us.
My wife thought that was a cracking idea too. We were both convinced our son would choose a good girl, but of course, you want to get to know her yourselfhes still young, after all.
The night he introduced us to his new girlfriend, Ill admit, I was thrown. On the face of it, she seemed lovelywell-mannered and friendly. But as we got to know her, it became clear she was nothing but a liar and a cheat. She never seemed to care about anyone but herself.
The thing is, I work in the police, and I recognised her straight away. Shed been linked to a few fraud cases. Went out with lads she met online, spun stories about being an orphan, took advantage of them for their money, then blocked them everywhere. Shed tricked quite a lot of boys, from what I know.
I sat my son down and told him everything, but he just wouldnt have it. He shouted at me, saying I was making it all up just to ruin his happiness. He packed his bags and stormed out to go live with her.
Its been a month now and we havent heard a word from him. Lately, I keep questioning whether I made the right callwhat if she has changed, or maybe someone really did set her up?
If you were in my shoes, what would you have done?
