I Gave My Daughter an Apartment for Her Wedding—Only Later Did I Realize My Terrible Mistake

I gave my daughter a flat for her wedding. Only later did I realise Id made a terrible mistake.

I had a wonderful wifebeautiful, kind, clever. We lived together for twenty-three years. Those were the best days of my life. But recently, a cruel illness took her from me. Together, we raised our daughter.

While my wife was still alive, she suggested we buy another flat to rent out for extra income. But my pension was barely enough to scrape by. She insisted that if we rented it, money would always trickle in, and if times turned hard, we could always sell. Property is solid, after all. Emily, our daughter, was old enough to take care of her own home.

When Emily accepted her boyfriends marriage proposal, I gave them the second flat as a wedding gift, so they wouldnt have to live in rented digs. But later, I regretted it deeply. I always thought my daughter had a good head on her shoulders, yet she did *this*.

After I signed the flat over to her, she sold it straightaway and bought a brand-new Mercedes with the money.

“Where will you live, Emily?” I asked.
“Oh, Dad, well easily earn enough for a new place, and for now, well just rent. Ben and I always dreamed of owning a proper car. Weve still got a few thousand left, so were flying to Spain. Weve earned a decent holiday, havent we?”

To say I was shocked would be an understatement. Do you think they kept that car long? Of course not! Three months later, my son-in-law crashed it, turning it into scrap metal. At least Emily wasnt hurt. Soon after, she found out Ben had taken a mistress and left him.

Emily had no choice but to move back in with meleft with no husband, no flat, and no car.
