Today, I witness an act of kindness by a 25-year-old coach driver. Heres what unfolds.
At the stop, an elderly lady of about 80 boards the bus; Im watching the whole scene. She pulls out a hankythere’s money tucked inside, of coursecounts out the fare, and politely asks the driver if he could let her off at the next stop by the corner shop. He agrees, as usual. She hands over the money and says,
Thank you, love.
But the driver refuses her payment! He grabs his wallet and explains hell be back in just a few minutes. He hurries off to the shop and returns with four pints of milk, a pint of cream, a loaf of bread, some pasta, and some meat! He gives all of this to the elderly lady. She tries to decline, saying,
No need, my pension is enough for bread and that sort of thing.
But the young man says,
If you dont accept, Ill just have to throw it all away.
The old lady bursts into tears, thanks him warmly, and wishes him all the best. The driver gets back on the coach. Then a woman in her forties complains,
Was it really worth spending your money and wasting our time just for a thank you?
The driver turns around, opens the doors, and asks her to leave, saying,
Its because of people like you that the elderly think all young people are rudesince youve managed to teach your children nothing but hypocrisy and greed!
She steps off, red as a beetroot! Well done, ladheres to more people like you!
