“You Sit at Home All Day Doing Nothing”—After Hearing These Words, I Decided It Was Time for Him to Learn His Lesson

You know, Id always heard from friends that once men get married, they suddenly act as though their wives belong to them, and their true colours come out. But I was sure my husband was different. Honestly, before we tied the knot, he was always sweet. He never had a harsh word, was terrified of upsetting me, and just wanted me by his side all the time. Of course, I was naïve. Turns out, once a man wins a womans heart, things do change.

A few months after our wedding, he started making unkind remarks about my mum. Asking why she phones so often, why she pops round every week. I didnt want to rock the boat, so I actually told my mum to give me some space and only called her when he wasnt around. But it didnt stop there. When I became pregnant, I lost my job. Unfortunately, the pregnancy was tricky and I was told to rest, so my contract wasnt renewed. Thats when my husband started getting on my case, saying things like, You lounge about at home all day and do nothing.

I stayed quietwhat was I meant to do, especially being pregnant? I worried what would happen if he left me.

Fast forward to about eighteen months after our daughter was born, and he started demanding to be treated like some sort of king. When he got home from work, he expected me waiting by the door, his slippers ready, dinner piping hot on the table. He wouldnt lift a finger for our babyapparently, that was a womans job. To be honest, I was worn to the bone.

So one day, I just packed up, took our daughter, and moved in with my mum in Bristol. I didnt speak to him for two months. Life actually got betterI went back to work, I looked healthier every day, and bit by bit started to feel like myself again.

Out of the blue, he turned up one evening, looking thin and a bit shabby, and literally got down on his knees to apologise. You shouldve seen himbegging me to give him another chance. So I said, Alright, but first, youll have to take a cookery course. When Im home, youll cook and clean. He agreed, but I told him well just have to wait and see if he actually keeps it up.
