– You live with your mother, she’ll provide for you and feed you properly. And I need the money! – my husband told me and took away the card that I used to receive my child allowance.

I met Mark when we both graduated from high school. Mark went off to serve in the army, and I waited for him. All this time I wrote letters to him, and we waited impatiently to be together. Mark came back from the army and three months later we got married. My mother didn’t like it very much.

– Why are you in such a hurry, my daughter? You don’t even know Mark.
– I love him, and he’s very nice! – I said. – Everything will be fine!

And so we had our wedding. Then we went to live in the capital. I was able to get a job very quickly, while Mark couldn’t find a normal job for six months. We got used to life in the capital. Everything was going well for us.

So Mark and I lived together for a year and a half. And then I got pregnant. I was very happy. The only thing I was worried about was that when I would be at home with the baby, we would have money problems. After all, the salary that Mark received was only enough to pay the rent.

When I went on maternity leave, it became very hard. But Mark didn’t even try to find another job so that we could live normally. Instead, when my son was born, he suggested that I stay at his mom’s place.

– It would be even easier for you! Your mom will help you with the baby! And I’ll be doing repairs in the apartment, and every weekend I’ll come visit you! – Mark told me.

I agreed. For the first two months Mark came every weekend. And then he started coming less and less frequently. My husband told me that he was very busy: he had found a part-time job, and on his only day off he was doing repairs. Then one day Mark came over and said:

– Your mother provides for you, doesn’t she? She’s the one who feeds you! And I need money to put on decent clothes and finish the repairs! – Mark said and took away my card, which was used to pay my child support.

I did not suspect anything, but my mother was smarter than me. Within a month we learned the truth about how things really were. It turned out that Mark didn’t have any part-time work, and he hadn’t done any repairs to the apartment. He had been lying to me the whole time. He was taking different girls to our apartment. He told everyone he lived alone.

I couldn’t forgive that. Mark and I divorced. I couldn’t forgive or forget his betrayal. Mark paid alimony, but very poorly. And then he got a low-paying job. Eventually he stopped paying alimony altogether. But I didn’t want anything from Mark. I just never wanted to see him at all.

I’m married now. My husband is wonderful to me, and he considers my son his own son. In all these ten years I’ve never heard from Mark or seen him. And I’m very happy about that.
