For some reason I did not like my mother-in-law very much right away. The thing is that Jack was dating Elizabeth before me, whom my mother-in-law really liked. But they broke up. And my mother-in-law didn’t like me because I was from the most ordinary family. I realized that my mother-in-law didn’t want to communicate with me, so I didn’t try to be friends with her.
So I tried to communicate with her as little as possible: congratulating her on holidays and talking on neutral topics when we occasionally met. A year after we got married I got pregnant. When my husband told his mother about it, she started screaming really hard. I heard it all. My mother-in-law was not at all happy about the prospect of becoming a grandmother.
The pregnancy was complicated: there was a big threat of miscarriage. I was in the hospital for a long time on preservation. And during this time my mother-in-law never once called me and asked how I was feeling. It turned out that I gave birth prematurely, but the baby was fine. But that was just another reason for my mother-in-law to reproach and scold me. My mother-in-law kept telling me that I was a slut and that that was why I couldn’t carry the baby to term.
– It’s not your baby at all! We’ve never had girls in our family!
My husband told me all of this. My husband’s parents have only seen our daughter twice, even though our daughter is three years old. My husband’s parents live nearby, and I didn’t forbid them to see my granddaughter. They just never had such a desire.
My mother-in-law does not know that I know what she thinks of me and says mean things to her son. On the contrary, she teaches me how I should behave with my husband.
– Don’t let him drink, or he’ll get drunk! And don’t let him have too many friends! A man should always be controlled!
And on the same day my mother-in-law calls my husband and says mean things about me.
– You’ll be glad I opened your eyes now! Your daughter is not your child! We only had boys in our family! Why won’t you listen to me? – My mother-in-law keeps telling her son.
It really hurts me when my husband tells me that. I am glad that at least my husband turned out to be an adequate person and does not believe his mother’s words. I wish my husband would stop communicating with his mother, because she really is an inadequate person. But I can’t demand anything from my husband. But I do know that I will never allow my mother-in-law to be alone with my daughter. That is how we live. I really hope that someday my mother-in-law will calm down and stop treating me like this…
