When Emily found out she was expecting, her family was utterly taken aback. They werent keen on the idea of her being in a relationship with someone whom, in their eyes, might not be around for very long.
Emily was an ordinary girl from Manchester, brought up in a close-knit family. She grew up with her mum and stepfather, who always did his best to fill the role of her real dad. Her parents were unfailingly supportive, and she always knew she was loved and could rely on them. Emily finished school and passed her A-levels, but her chances of getting into university were slim because her English literature skills werent quite up to scratch.
Determined to improve, Emily decided private tutoring might give her the boost she needed. She started looking for a tutor and settled on David, a British-born teacher who had come to Manchester for his studies and had been giving lessons for a few years. At first, the lessons didnt go particularly well for Emily. Over time, however, she grew fond of David, and before long, their lessons blossomed into something deeper. They realised they didnt want to be apart any longer.
When Emily discovered she was pregnant, her family was once again in shock. They disliked the idea of her being in a relationship with someone they thought might not stick around. They feared shed end up raising her child alone and worried about her little one standing out among their peers because of the familys differences.
After graduation, David really did return home for a while but stayed in close touch with Emily. Both eagerly awaited the birth of their child, keeping up regular phone calls and video chats. Their baby was born perfectly healthy, but due to the persistent coldness of her family, Emily made the difficult choice to move away and join David.
Life in London wasn’t easy for Emily and her husbandthey struggled to adjust to city life and missed the comfort of familiar faces. Eventually, they decided to move back to Manchester, where after some time, Emily gave birth to their second daughter. Despite the familys continued refusal to stay in touch, Emily refused to part ways with the man she loved just to keep others happy. Together, they began planning a new future in Canada, hoping they might find a more open and accepting community there.
Through all the challenges, Emily learned that happiness isnt about meeting others expectations, but rather about staying true to yourself and holding tight to those you love. True family is made not only by blood, but by the bonds of the heart.
