Inna, frustrated, was packing her children’s toys. The girl dreamed of a trip to her mother, most of all she wanted to cry on her shoulder. However, she could not go to visit her parent alone. Her mother agreed to her daughter’s visit with her grandchildren.
The other day Inna almost had a tantrum. She spun all day like a whirligig, because it was not easy with the twins, but no one cancels the household chores. She waited for her husband from work, as she hoped for help, but he said it would be late. Inna was very offended, but she even rejoiced in her heart, because she would not have to cook him dinner. However, when her husband came home, he demanded that she not only feed him, but also perform marital duty.
Inna at this point and struck. When her husband’s mother called in the morning to find out what had happened, the daughter-in-law complained to her that she was very tired, but instead of words of support her husband’s mother answered her:
– Sweetheart, why are you so tired? Is it so hard to make soup for your husband? The more I get to know you, the more I am convinced that you are worthless and weak. I went to work three months after giving birth, I raised my son, and I did all the housework.
Inna did not listen to her mother-in-law’s monologue and hung up. She talked to her mother and decided to go to her for a few days to rest. Her mother was happy for her daughter’s arrival: she fed her delicious food and gave her tea. Inna had already forgotten what it was like to have someone do something for her. When mother and daughter had put the children to bed and sat down for tea Inna began to tell her parent about her life:
– Mommy, I had long ago lost hope that my husband would help me in any way, but I hoped at least for the support of his mother, because she is a woman and has a whole life behind her…
– And what did she tell you?
– She told me that I have nothing to get tired of, she herself went to work when Andrew was a few months.
– She did? We’re a small town, so everyone knows everything about each other. I can say without exaggeration that she exaggerates a lot. First of all, she has one child, not two, and second of all, she had him without a spouse. Every woman knows that her husband needs care like a small child, and she had no one to take care of him. She went to work after giving birth, but her mother took Artem and she worked twelve hours a day not at a factory, but she sang songs at the recreation center at the rate of zero five.
And at that time nobody made such claims to women as now: girls were beauties after school and university, and if they got married, they had to be more modest. After forty-five, women were generally considered old women. Nowadays children are brought up by books, and we used to give you a belt – that’s your upbringing. And no one judged anyone for that, and it was considered perfectly normal. So tell your mother-in-law not to be smart and not to compare…
After these words of her mother Inna somehow felt better at once, because in fact people used to live quite differently…
