What Goes Around Comes Around: Husband Files for Divorce and Returns to Ex-Wife

What goes around comes around: my husband filed for divorce and went back to his ex-wife

I always thought of myself as a skilled player in the game of love. However, life taught me a harsh lesson: everything comes at a cost, and eventually, fate makes us face the consequences of our actions.

When I was twenty-five, I got married not so much for love as for the desire to stay in a large city, far away from my provincial hometown where everyone knew each other and personal lives were public knowledge. Here, in the metropolis, I felt free from prying eyes of relatives and neighbors.

An affair with a friend’s boyfriend

It all began when my school friend introduced me to her boyfriend, Alex. Tall, brown-eyed, with a captivating smile — he caught my attention immediately. Maybe the forbidden fruit seemed sweeter to me, but I made it my goal to win him over. Alex couldn’t resist my charms, and soon we were secretly seeing each other behind his girlfriend’s back.

Our encounters were filled with passion and adrenaline. I didn’t limit myself to just Alex and continued to flirt with other men, enjoying the attention and the feeling of control. Alex was aware of my dalliances, but being unavailable himself, he couldn’t complain.

One day, he saw me getting out of another man’s car. It was a turning point: Alex declared he could no longer share me with anyone and proposed breaking up with his girlfriend to be with me. Feeling flattered by his determination and the prospect of living together, which would spare me the burden of paying rent, I agreed.

Boredom and a return to old habits

Living together quickly turned mundane. I missed the excitement and freedom of the past. When I ran into my former flame, Michael, I couldn’t resist indulging in old habits. Our meetings became frequent, and I rediscovered my zest for life.

Gradually, I went back to my old lifestyle filled with flirting and fleeting affairs. One day, without informing Alex, I packed my bags and left, leaving behind just a note explaining the breakup.

A twist of fate

A month later, I discovered I was pregnant. Realizing I wasn’t ready for single motherhood, I went back to Alex. Upon hearing about the child, he proposed to me. I agreed, hoping that living together for the child’s sake would bring us happiness.

A year after our son, Liam, was born, I became pregnant again. Now we had two children, and my life became an endless cycle of chores and responsibilities. Alex spent more and more time at work, while I felt trapped, deprived of my former freedom and joys.

The collapse of the family

One day, I returned home to find a note from Alex: “I’ve filed for divorce. It’s over between us.” He left, leaving me with two small children. Later, I found out he had returned to his former girlfriend, the same friend from whom I had taken him away.

Now I’m on my own with the children, without support or backing. Fate reminded me that everything comes full circle, and you have to pay dearly for the mistakes of youth.
