What Goes Around Comes Around: Husband Files for Divorce and Returns to Ex-Wife

What goes around comes around: my husband filed for divorce and went back to his ex-wife

I always fancied myself a skilled player in the game of love. But life taught me a harsh lesson: everything has its price, and inevitably, destiny returns our actions to us.

At twenty-five, I got married not so much out of love but more out of a desire to stay in the big city, far away from my provincial hometown where everyone knew each other and personal life was public knowledge. In this metropolis, I felt free from the scrutinizing eyes of neighbors and relatives.

An affair with a friend’s boyfriend

It all started when my school friend introduced me to her boyfriend, Alex. Tall, with brown eyes and a charming smile, he caught my attention immediately. Perhaps it was the allure of the forbidden, but I made it my mission to win his heart. Alex fell under my spell, and soon we were meeting secretly behind his girlfriend’s back.

Our encounters were filled with passion and adrenaline. I didn’t just limit myself to Alex and kept flirting with other men, enjoying the attention and the sense of power it gave me. Alex was aware of my escapades, but since he wasn’t free himself, he couldn’t complain.

One day, he saw me getting out of another man’s car. That was a turning point: Alex declared he couldn’t share me anymore and suggested he break up with his girlfriend to live with me. I agreed, flattered by his decisiveness and the prospect of living together, which spared me from having to pay rent.

Boredom and a return to old habits

Living together quickly became routine. I started to miss the emotions and freedom I once had. When I ran into an old flame, David, I couldn’t resist the temptation to dive back into past passions. Our meetings became regular, and I felt alive again.

Gradually, I returned to my old lifestyle filled with flirting and fleeting connections. One day, without telling Alex, I packed my things and left, leaving only a note saying I was ending things.

An unexpected twist of fate

A month later, I found out I was pregnant. Realizing I wasn’t ready for single motherhood, I went back to Alex. Upon learning about the baby, he proposed to me. I agreed, hoping that living together for the child’s sake would bring us happiness.

A year after our son, Charles, was born, I became pregnant again. Now we had two children, and my life turned into an endless cycle of responsibilities and domestic chores. Alex spent more and more time at work, and I felt trapped, deprived of my former freedoms and joys.

The family falls apart

One day, I came home to find a note from Alex: “I’ve filed for divorce. It’s over between us.” He left, leaving me with two small children. I later found out he went back to his ex-girlfriend, the very friend from whom I had once taken him.

Now, I’m alone with the kids, without support or help. Life has shown me that what goes around comes around, and the mistakes of youth come with a full price.
