What About the Apartment? You Promised Me! You’re Ruining My Life!

You wont believe what happened. My husband and I were absolutely thrilled when we found out our son was getting married. Before the big day, we quietly told him that we wanted to surprise him with a flat as a wedding gift. Thomas was over the moon about it, honestly. He was so excited that all his mates heard about it that very same day. We were caught up in wedding preparations when, out of nowhere, disaster struck.

Our daughter ended up in hospital straight from work after suddenly falling ill. My husband and I rushed over immediately. The doctors ran some tests and discovered she had a tumour, so she needed surgery as soon as possible. You can imagine the panicnow we needed a good deal of money, and quickly. Thank goodness we found out in time.

Buying that flat for Thomas just wasnt possible anymore. We threw all our energy into raising the money needed for our daughters treatment. We were so lucky that our family and friends rallied around usnobody turned a blind eye. Everyone chipped in however they could. Some handed us cash and insisted we didnt worry about paying them back. Together, we managed to gather enough pounds for the operation.

But then Thomas hit us with something honestly shocking.

So what about my flat? he demanded. You promised it to me! Youre ruining my life.

I just couldnt believe he said that. How could he be so self-absorbed? His own sister was fighting for her life. Hed grown up with her! How could he possibly put his wedding and her surgery on the same level? I was speechless. But Thomas didnt stop.

Why does she get everything and I get nothing?

Well, I completely lost my temper and started shouting at him. I told him I didnt want to see him anymore. He gathered his things and moved in with his fiancée. We didnt speak for two weeks.

During those weeks, my daughter had her surgery and thankfully everything went well. After a few weeks, she was discharged and able to come home. I didnt say a word to her about her brothers behaviourits nothing but shameful, and there was no need to upset her. Thomas didnt call us during all that time. He didnt even ask how his sister was doing. Clearly, having a home mattered more to him than his family does.
