My wife, Diane, recently gave birth for the second time. We have a three-year-old son, so this time we went to the maternity hospital for our daughter.
Fortunately, the birth went easily, my wife was no longer worried because she knew what to expect. When my wife heard the baby’s first cry, she smiled so joyfully that the midwife couldn’t contain her excitement: “If only everyone had a birth like that!”
They congratulated me on the birth of my daughter and sent me home, handing me a list of things to bring tomorrow. But when I went to see my wife the next day, I saw three babies in her room! Seeing my astonished eyes, Diane laughed softly and told me what’s wrong.
Yesterday in the pathology department, a young girl gave birth for the first time. Twin girls were born, a little premature, but quite healthy. That girl was put in the same room as my wife, and since she either didn’t have enough milk or didn’t want to breastfeed, my Diana agreed to breastfeed her daughters as well. Fortunately, there was plenty of milk, so all the children were fed and calm.
Another day later, I witnessed a situation that struck me to the core. The mother of the twins came to see her mother. The women talked for a long time about something, the mother looked depressed, sometimes even cried. Doctors came, even the head of the department, the whole department was worried about the newborn girls – their mother had written a refusal, the road lay in the orphanage. No one was able to convince the girl not to leave her daughters to their fate, she packed her bags and left the hospital in the evening without her children.
Diana continued to feed the girls, while I went to see them every day and couldn’t stop admiring my wife, couldn’t stop dreaming about how wonderful it would be to have a large family – a son and three daughters! One day I did decide to share my thoughts with my wife, and it turned out that she herself wanted to offer to take custody of the abandoned girls because she was so used to them.
Despite the fact that the little twins were already registered at the orphanage, the head of the maternity ward made concessions to us, revoked the already-ready papers and made sure that my wife and I were allowed to take custody of the girls as soon as possible.
That’s how we went to the maternity hospital to get a baby sister for our oldest son, and we brought home as many as three! I had always dreamed of having a happy big family, and now I was convinced that dreams do come true.
