When my mother-in-law died, my spouse was barely twenty-two years old, his dad died a little earlier. When my mother died, he was left with a spacious three-bedroom apartment. When it came time to inherit, my grandmother on my mother’s side didn’t let the moment pass her by.
My husband and I got married a year after his mother died.
– Why did Grandma do that? – I repeatedly asked Max. – Why didn’t she want the apartment to go completely to her daughter’s only son?
– Grandma did that out of spite, – Max said. – She was against the marriage of mom and dad, she always hated my father. When Mom’s father left her his house as an inheritance, Grandmother demanded that her mother rewrite half of it to her older sister, but Mother refused to do so.
Mother’s sister had always lived as Grandmother would say, she even married the man she pointed out to Grandmother, but when her son-in-law refused to support her mother-in-law, she demanded that her daughter leave her spouse.
– Grandmother did not even care that her aunt had a son left, she did everything to ensure that father and son did not see each other. When her aunt left her husband her son was five years old.
After the divorce, the aunt returned to her mother and lived with her in her two-room apartment. The parent took great pleasure in the fact that the aunt was living in her house and she had regained power over her. The daughter took revenge on her mother for ruining her life. My husband’s brother is exactly five years older than he is. When my husband’s mother died, my brother got married.
– My grandmother decided to take revenge on my mother in this way, because she did not want to share her apartment with her sister. According to her words it was a way to restore justice.
After the wedding I had to live in the same apartment with my husband’s aunt, as grandmother let her grandson live with his wife, and her daughter was sent to live in an apartment that belonged to Max. My husband’s aunt was quiet and non-conflictive and I got on well with her, but Max’s relationship with his relative didn’t work out. And then my aunt’s son came to us and said:
– My grandmother kicked us out, she said she was fed up with us, so we’re moving in with you.
But I was not satisfied with such a life. I was acquainted with my brother’s spouse, she’s a piece of work, besides we had to move our child into our own bedroom, and give one room to my brother’s family.
– And why do we have to live in this tiny little room? I want to live in your room, so let’s switch. – my brother’s wife started to resent me.
– And you do not bother that half of this small room by law belongs to my husband. If you want a larger room, then negotiate with your mother-in-law. – I replied.
After that, the aunt moved into the small room, and her son and his wife in the big room, as my mother-in-law did not want to quarrel with his sister-in-law. From that day on our quiet life was over as from the morning the daughter-in-law started to quarrel sometimes with her husband and sometimes with his mother.
Several times she clung to me, but I put her in her place quickly. Two housewives can’t get along in one kitchen, and three is a complete madhouse. One day my husband lost his nerve, and he decided to talk to my grandmother:
– Grandma, how would you feel about me exchanging my share of the apartment for your two-room apartment with a good surcharge?
– Well, you’re sly, you have your room and a half, and I have two, and I do not want to live in the same apartment with that bitch, whom my grandson married. – answered Granny.
Grandma didn’t care that we had to live with that bitch because of her, and she had no conscience at all about the fact that she had disinherited her grandson. We could not agree with my aunt and her son to sell the apartment and split the money, so we gave our part to a family from near abroad. And then we took a spacious two-year mortgage, and grandmother, aunt and brother and his wife now swear us to hell, because the new neighbor was in line with his brother’s wife.
After a while, my aunt went back to her mother, and my brother’s wife now lives with her copy on the same property. They didn’t want to do it nicely, so now let them live and be happy!
My husband’s relatives do not even say hello to us, but when my grandmother got sick, she immediately called and demanded that we give her money for medicine, because if we do not financially help them, she will deprive Max of his inheritance. Mac just laughed in response:
– Disinherit? I’m not used to it, let her do as she pleases! I don’t give a damn about her inheritance!
