The headteacher shook her hands and said: “What can you do? The parents of these bullies helped refurbish the school”

So, you wouldnt believe the story I heard about Tom and Emilytheyve been mates ever since nursery. Their families live next door to each other, so of course their mums figured it made sense to send them to the same primary and pop them both in Year 1 together. They even had a quick word with Miss Carter, their teacher, and asked if she could seat them close, you know, so Tom could look out for Emily just in case any of the other kids got a bit rough. With all the boys in that class, you never know. Anyway, both Tom and Emily were properly chuffed to be heading to school together and, honestly, schoolwork seemed like a breeze for both of them.

But then, when they moved up to Year 3, Emilys mum noticed her daughter wasnt quite herself anymore. She seemed scared all the time and started refusing to go to school. One day Emily even begged her mum to move her to a different school. That really threw her mum off, so she rang up Toms mum just to check inand turns out things werent that brilliant on their end either.

Turns out, Tom had been asking to transfer to another school, too. That same day after school, his mum noticed he had bruises on his arms and back. The two mums agreed to go by the school the next day and get to the bottom of what was going on with their kids.

When they spoke to Miss Carter, she tried to reassure them that everything seemed fine in her classroom; maybe, she said, the kids mustve gotten into a scuffle outside of school. But just as she was saying this, a whole swarm of children burst into the room, shouting over each other. The mums looked around and saw the boys tugging at Toms jumper, and a group further along doing much the same to Emily.

Both mums leapt in to shield their kids, but honestly, the classroom had descended into chaos and no one was paying attention. Even the teacher was struggling to settle everyone down. Thankfully, one of the girls dashed off to call the headteacher, Mr. Harris. Only then did things start to cool off.

The mums told Mr. Harris they werent about to let things slidethey wanted to call in the parents of those bullies or even get the police involved if nothing improved. Mr. Harris tried to calm them, assuring them hed invite the troublemakers parents in first thing in the morning and everyone could talk it through.

As he walked them to the door, Mr. Harris mentioned the tricky thing was that these boys were all from families with more money than sense. They dont listen to anyone, he said, not even their teachers, and theyve been known to bully other kids. The school had called their parents in before, but frankly, those parents werent much better than their childrenno manners at all.

The next day, Emily and Toms mums showed up at the appointed time, and the bullies parents were already there. Miss Carter had warned them it might be difficult, and my word, she wasnt wrongthe parents were shouting and backing their kids, refusing to listen to a single thing. They were really rude to the teacher, too. Only Mr. Harris managed to get a word in, though not for long.

In the end, nothing was resolved. The parents stormed out, telling everyone else not to make a fuss over nonsense. Mr. Harris just shook his head and muttered, What can you do? Their families helped pay for the new school roof, so you cant exactly ask them to withdraw their kids.

When they got home that night, Tom and Emily told their mums that these boys basically terrorised the whole class. If any boy ended up wandering the corridor alone, the bullies would catch him and give him a thumping. Tom and Emily got beaten up just for sticking togetherapparently, that annoyed the bullies. So, in the end, both mums decided enough was enough and transferred their children to a different school. Mr. Harris even handed in his noticehe just couldnt deal with those wild kids and their impossible parents anymore.
