I inherited a spacious two-room apartment from my father. It was located in the city center on the second floor. We did not live in it because my husband had his own house. We planned to give this apartment to our son one day.
But so that the apartment would not be empty, we decided to rent it out.
We wrote an ad. A couple responded. A young man of twenty-three and a girl who was probably not even twenty. They seemed well-mannered and calm. Until the neighbors started calling us complaining that our tenants were partying until the wee hours of the morning. We immediately warned the couple that if this happened again, we would have to say goodbye to them.
But the situation happened again. Then we decided to look for new tenants. Four months ago, a family responded to our offer. Both of them were about forty years old. They had no children. As far as my husband and I understood, they were not poor people, just temporarily looking for a more comfortable place to live. They arrived in an expensive car.
In order not to make the same mistakes, we immediately discussed all the issues with them. These people were the complete opposite of the previous residents. They always paid the utilities on time and kept the apartment tidy. And the neighbors did not complain about them. We were really happy with these residents.
Once they made a very strange offer:
– “How do you feel about us renovating your apartment? We will paint the walls and change the laminate flooring.
I replied that we don’t plan to renovate this apartment at the moment, because it would entail unnecessary expenses.
– No need for anything. We will pay for everything ourselves. We want to thank you for letting us stay here.
They said they both worked in the construction industry, so they had experience.
We agreed. And why not?
Our tenants had recently finished the renovation and told us they were planning to move back home. My husband and I couldn’t believe it. We were expecting them to start demanding money from us for the repairs. But no.
We walked into our apartment and could not believe our eyes. The renovation was extremely beautiful. We definitely did not expect to see our apartment like this. All the colors of the rooms showed that people were really professionals in this business. Then we asked:
– How much should we pay you back for the materials and work?
– Nothing, this is our thanks for your kindness.
We were sorry to say goodbye to such good people. After this incident, I became convinced that good always comes back in kind.
