So, Emily came home completely worn out, arms aching from hauling back heavy shopping bags. She was hoping to catch up with her husband, only to be greeted by loud shouting from the living room. When she walked in, she found her husband and his brother, Tom, glued to the telly watching the football and necking pints of lager. Feeling a bit annoyed, Emily reminded her husband about the plans they’d made for dinner that evening, but he explained Tom was staying over because his wife had chucked him out for a week, and he had nowhere else to go.
The next morning, Emily was woken up by blaring pop music because Tom had cranked up the volume on the TV again. Hed lost his job after a round of redundancies, and her husband had been trying to sort him out with a role at his office. Whenever Emily had a day off, she wound up sorting the house herselfcooking, cleaning, washing, you name it. Having Tom there just meant even more mess, and her own husband had started slacking off completely, claiming housework wasnt “mens business” anyway.
Emily started to feel completely overwhelmed, running around after everyone, tidying, cleaning up after two grown men, and cooking meals every day. One afternoon, she got in from work, knackered, only to find the place in an absolute state. She finally snapped, telling her husband and Tom that she felt like their skivvy and that Tom had clearly overstayed his welcome. He was only meant to stay for a weekit had been a month.
An argument kicked off, and both blokes stormed out of the house, not even bothering to come back that night. Emily spent the next week not having a clue where her husband was. Eventually, he returned and admitted that hed made a mess of things. Apparently, Tom had caused all sorts of trouble at work too and managed to get both of them sacked. Theyd fallen out, and now her husband was full of regrets for not listening to Emilys warnings about his brother.
He moped about in the lounge for days, desperate to make amends. In the end, Emily forgave him, realising that love mattered more than holding onto grudges. That whole palaver was a real wake-up call for the both of themthey knew they had to sort things out properly and rebuild what they had together.
