I work as a dentist in a private clinic. I like my job very much. Yes, and I earn very well. We have a dining room at work. There is a microwave, dishes and a fridge. When we come to work, we all put our food in the fridge. And we eat when we have a break from work. And there’s never been a problem with that.
One day I came to work, I put cutlets in the fridge. And when I came in for lunch, I found that there was only one cutlet left in my container. But I didn’t focus my attention on that. I decided that maybe someone just mixed up the food containers and ate my cutlets by mistake. The next day I made chops. But when I arrived at lunchtime, it turned out that the chops were not there at all.
I talked to my coworkers about it. My coworkers started talking about how their food was missing, too. We were very surprised. After all, this had never happened before. We don’t eat at the same time, but at different times: when we have a free minute. We immediately suspected our new employee, the intern. The guy came and got a job at our hospital for the summer. We decided to follow him.
When Frank went to lunch, I followed him. The guy opened the refrigerator and started taking food from different containers. He took whatever he wanted. He took a cutlet from one container and a piece of fish from another. Then he got some dumplings for himself as well.
When he saw me, he said to me:
– You decided to have lunch, too?
I asked the guy: why does he take someone else’s food?
And he asked me:
– Why other people’s food? It’s shared food!
– No! It’s food that each employee brings for himself from home.
And the guy was very surprised. He said he had been told that the hospital provided food for its employees. That’s why he opened the fridge and took whatever he wanted. I explained to Frank that that wasn’t really the case. I don’t know if it was his own idea or if he just misunderstood our boss.
