Sophia laughed every time there was a black streak in her life. She was taught to do so as a child. Most likely, this feature attracted Henry. After all, he was not taught this: he was only told to endure everything in silence. They met in the park. Sophia was sitting on a bench eating ice cream. Henry sat down next to her and asked:
– Oh, where did you buy the ice cream?
– You can buy it everywhere!
– But hardly everywhere it is so tasty.
– I’ll tell you a secret: the most delicious ice cream is the one made at home.
– Strange, I’ve never tried homemade ice cream.
– Do you want me to bring it tomorrow?
And so their relationship began. But Maria, Henry’s mother, did not like the changes in her son. He became somehow noisy and cheerful. And when she saw Sophia, she was so angry!
– She’s no good for you! Do you hear me? Cook? Are you crazy? This is not what we raised and trained you for.
But Henry didn’t care. While his mother was angry, he remembered the taste of those buns that Sophia treated him to yesterday.
They got married against the mother-in-law’s will. Henry settled in the house of Sophia’s parents. Sophia got pregnant and Henry’s father was fired from his job. It hit the father-in-law so hard that he fell down on the ground of nerves. Maria was also getting pennies, so one day she turned to Sophia for help.
– I am not asking you to take care of us. Just, please, be there for us. You can stay with us for a while.
Sophia agreed, because it was a great opportunity to get along with her husband’s parents. Despite the fact that they almost never had anything in the refrigerator, Sophia still managed to cook something very tasty and extraordinary. When she gave birth, her father-in-law offered to sit with her granddaughter all the time. He thus saved Sophia’s life, and she was able to find a part-time job in a pizzeria.
Communication with the granddaughter and constant responsibility brought the father-in-law out of his longstanding stupor. When the girl grew up a little, he was able to get a good job, earned a comfortable retirement and bought a country house, where he moved with his wife. They now have the warmest and closest relationship with their daughter-in-law.
