It’s been a month since Ryan moved to live with Ida. And before that they had been dating for a year. They lived without a marriage, as it is fashionable now. They got used to each other. Ryan was handsome, with a calm disposition. He earned much more than Ida. But he did not help around the house, saying it was not a man’s job.
– You, my daughter, have chosen the right man, – her neighbor, grandmother Tina, told her, – You do a good job at home yourself. And when the children leave, I’ll help you.
– What children, grandma Tina, we haven’t signed up yet.
– You can’t do that. Your grandma wouldn’t allow it. You have to go to the registry office.
Grandma Tina was best friends with her own grandma Ida. They lived next door to each other all their lives. And now Ida has grandma’s apartment. Grandma Tina helped Ida as much as she could.
One day Ryan picked Ida up at work and they went to the grocery store together. The man looked at a bag of rice, cheese, buns, milk. He realized that it was for Tina.
– You didn’t buy all this for your neighbor for free, did you?
– Granny Tina is like my family. She always offers me money, but I don’t take it. She has a small pension…
– And you earn two pennies. Stop feeding your neighbor!
– Explain, please, what has come over you?” Ida asked calmly.
But Ryan remained silent. He was silent all evening. But in the morning he apologized. He explained the troubles at work. And he added:
– I’m looking for a part-time job. But we need to be more economical with money.
And yesterday, the streets were snowed, so they went to the store on foot. Ida again bought groceries for herself and grandma Tina. It turned out to be two big bags. She had to carry them herself, because Ryan said:
– I did not hire neighbors to carry groceries.
With difficulty, Ida carried the bags to her neighbor, went to her apartment and packed Ryan’s things in a suitcase.
– Go! I don’t need an egoist. I care about Tina more than you.
Ryan left. With noise, with shouting, with swearing.
– We made a mistake, my daughter, – said Granny Tina, who witnessed the scandal.
