Dear Diary,
Sometimes I look back at my life and marvel at how much has happened since I was fifteen. That was the year I brought my daughter, Lily, into the world, still a schoolgirl in Year 10. For more than five years, I kept the identity of Lilys father hidden. Mum only learned about my pregnancy quite late, partly because I was always a bit bigger and she didnt suspect a thing. When my weight started increasing rapidly, she worried and took me to see a specialist in London. Thats when the truth came out. The shock and anger in her eyes still haunt meshed raised me alone, and now she had a granddaughter at such a young age.
I stood firm and refused to share Lilys fathers name, dodging all questions. It became the talk of my school; everyone seemed to want to know, but I remained silent. Despite it all, I pressed onwards. That summer holiday, Lily was born. Mum took time off from her work as a school secretary to look after her granddaughter. That gave me the space I needed to focus on my GCSEs and later, A-levels. With determination, I earned a scholarship to the local university in Manchester. While studying, I worked part-time at a small advertising agency, which helped me support both myself and Lily. I also received some extra financial helpbut I never told anyone where it came from.
As Lily grew, I continued to keep her fathers identity secret. When she turned three, Id still take her with me to the agency, juggling my studies, work, and managing to rent a modest flat for us. Lily has always been remarkably bright and endlessly curious, asking questions about everything and everyone.
After finishing university, I landed a full-time job at the same company where Id been working. That summer, as Lilys sixth birthday approached, I finally shocked everyone by bringing home a manher father, Adam. He had quietly supported us for years, yet we chose to keep his role hidden because he was pursuing a place at the Royal Military Academy.
Adam sent me money in secret and met with Lily away from prying eyes when he was home during his studies. After he graduated, he proposed to me, and I accepted. Id patiently waited for him, six years in all, and soon we married. Recently, Adam and I had a son together. Lily, now finishing Year 3, continues to blossom, bringing so much joy and light to our loving family. Sometimes, I reflect on the choices Ive made and the strength it took to protect those I loveand Im proud of the family weve built together.
