Puppy was adopted by man who saved her after being chained up in flooding

There are sad and delicate situations that, however unfair they may be, can have a happy ending. This was the case of a dog that was rescued in the middle of a flood just before drowning. The KPRC news team was reporting on the flooding in Texas, USA, when they came across the pet. The dog had been abandoned by her family in the middle of the emergency and, to make matters worse, she was left chained up.

The state of Texas was badly affected by the rains and all the families had been forced to evacuate. Among these groups of people were those who provided shelter for the pet that was rescued by the journalists when it was about to drown. After untying her and allowing her to board the boat in which she was traveling, they took her to the veterinarian. It was at the Houston Humane Society (HHS), where they took care of her health and welfare. There, they decided to name her Archer, because that was the name of one of the people who jumped off the boat to rescue her.

After Archer recovered, HHS began the search to find her a home where she could be cared for and loved. That’s when one of the men who rescued her showed his willingness to make her part of his family. “On Sunday, my family went to the Humane Society to meet Archer. We then made a family decision to adopt Archer. We took her home that day, and it’s been wonderful ever since.”

Sheriff Troy Nehls was the one who opened the doors of his home for Archer. Now, the pet enjoys a life where those around her show her affection and keep her chain-free indoors. “There is a bond with this dog and now I know she will stay with us. She is not tied to a porch. She is now in a home that is comfortable, she is sleeping on a bed and is given constant attention in the family,” commented Troy shortly after integrating the pet into his family.

The news team that rescued Archer, KPRC, contacted the owner of the house where the pet was found. Mario Gallardo, a 62-year-old man, eventually stated that he did not want the dog back. During the interaction with KPRC, the dog’s owner said that when he tried to return home in the middle of the flood, he was stopped by the police. However, at the time he only expressed to law enforcement that he had to go home “for some things.” At no time did he mention to them that it was about his dog.

Gallardo expressed his wish that Archer would find a good home. Luckily, she is now enjoying the love of her new family. Not all animals have the same chance of being saved from their own owners. For this reason, it is important to be aware of the responsibility of caring for an animal before adopting. The only thing we have no doubt about is that by making this decision, we find a guarantee of happiness for the whole family.
