Police found a strange old man wandering the streets with no memory of his name or addressbut when they tracked down his home, what they discovered inside was absolutely horrifying.
“Officer, this bloke was found earlier today. No ID, cant remember a thingno name, no address. Might be ill or hiding something. What should we do?”
“Leave it with me,” the young officer replied briskly, taking the old mans hand.
They led him into the station. He looked exhausted, confused, but there was something odd in his eyesfear, maybe, or desperation. The officer started with simple questions.
“Where did you come from?”
“Dont remember”
“Do you have any family? Children?”
“No no one”
“Do you know your name?”
“No”
His answers were all over the place, sometimes nonsense. Like he was hiding something or too scared to speak. The officer frowned and pulled CCTV footage from where theyd found him. Hours of watchingjust the old man wandering aimlessly, stopping now and then like hed forgotten where he was going.
After a full day of combing through footage, they finally traced him back to a house. The officer took him there, hoping it might jog his memory.
No one answered the door. Inside, it was dark. Silent.
“Maybe he lives alone?” one officer muttered.
“Doubt it. Lets break it down.”
The door gave way with a hard shove. What they saw inside left them stunned.
An elderly woman lay on the sofapale, barely breathing. Her lips moved weakly, like she was trying to say, *”Help”*
The officer called an ambulance immediately. Then it all made sense.
The old man had dementia. His wife had fallen ill that day. Hed tried calling for help, but the phone was too confusing. So he went out to find a neighbour and forgot why hed left.
Hours turned into a desperate, wandering nightmare until he collapsed.
In the end, though, he *did* bring help. A day late, but his frantic attempt to save her worked.
Afterwards, the officers chipped in to hire the couple a carer. No way theyd leave them like that.
