Lisa couldn’t stop talking to that elderly man. Every time she answered his messages, she would beat herself up.
At the age of forty-four, Lisa lived alone. She had no family. She could not find her soul mate. First because of her character, then because of her work. So she had no time for her personal life. If there were any acquaintances, they were unsuccessful. Either the men were married or divorced, or they wanted to use her. All her friends had long been married and had children.
So Lisa decided to try her luck on a dating site. She looked closely at everyone who wrote to her, because this is a man for life, not for a day.
In potential candidates, she tried to see her future husband and father of her children. Lisa corresponded with some men, even went on dates, but their relationship did not work out. Some of them were not interested in her at all, others were only interested in her appearance. But with this man, she immediately started a dialog. They talked for over a year.
Lisa told him about her life, shared her most intimate secrets. They understood each other at a glance. The man was much older than Lisa. Out of politeness, she could not stop talking to him. Another year passed. One day before Lisa’s birthday, the man asked for her address because he wanted to give her a gift. Lisa hesitated at first, but then finally told him.
On her birthday, the woman received a very beautiful painting from her interlocutor. She really liked the gift. Lisa immediately recalled their heart-to-heart conversations. She realized how hard the man had tried to make her feel good even from a distance.
Lisa thanked him for the painting and said she really liked it, but she never received a response.
Later, she received a letter. It was from the man’s lawyer. It turned out that he had passed away and had left Lisa his house as a legacy, as he also had no family.
Lisa went to his town to find out more about the inheritance. That man had no one but her. He was the only one who was really interested in Lisa and wasn’t looking for profit. She had achieved a lot in her life, but she didn’t have the most important thing – a family.
Lisa felt lonely, even though she had everything. It happens in life, you can have a lot of possessions and money, but still feel unhappy. Then the woman realized that many people spend their whole lives trying to earn money, achieve a career, and then loneliness comes, and it all seems unnecessary. While we live in pursuit of money, we often lose time with our families. But is it really worth it?
