One morning, Anna’s husband left for work and never came back; after calling everywhere, Anna discovered he was simply exhausted from family life.

Emily met her husband at a mutual friend’s wedding in London. They clicked right away and ended up spending the whole evening together, talking and laughing. Their relationship moved quickly; just a few months after meeting, they married and started living together in a cosy flat. Not long afterwards, Emily discovered she was pregnant. She somehow never managed to get a scan something always got in the way, whether she was unwell, couldnt get time off work, or some other reason cropped up.

The pregnancy was tough on Emily. She tired easily, was constantly nauseous, and suffered from back pain. Her bump grew so large she could hardly manage to walk for long, so she often had to rest. In the last month before giving birth, she didnt leave the house at all. Her husband loved her dearly and looked after her, but most of his time was taken up by work.

Labour started early. The doctors stayed right by her side. The babies arrived one after another: two girls and a boy. Emily was in shock. Her husband walked in and simply couldnt believe his eyes. In just a moment, hed become the father of three children.

While Emily was in hospital, he bought cots for the babies. Space was tight, since they only had a one-bedroom flat and nowhere else to go. Then real life began: sleepless nights, childhood illnesses. Her husband longed for the way things used to be carefree love, romantic evenings, midnight chats. But none of that returned.

Emily struggled to manage the three children, so she barely had any time left for her husband. Eventually, he gave in to the pressure. One day he left for work… and never returned.

Emily called everywhere she could think of the hospital, the police, their friends. All to no avail. It turned out he simply couldnt cope and had run away from his wife and children.

At that moment, Emily realised she had to be strong. She was now responsible for her children. Her mother moved in to help care for them. Together they brought up the children, even though it was far from easy. Emily stayed home until the children turned two. They managed with child benefits and her mothers pension.

A new shopping centre opened nearby, and Emily took a job there. She proved herself responsible, earning a position despite having three children.

From then on, life got easier. Soon she could even afford to hire a nanny, taking some pressure off her mother. A few years later, Emily was promoted. Shed changed so much becoming a confident, well-groomed woman. Thats how her ex-husband saw her when he came to visit his parents in the city.

He asked to see the children and pleaded with Emily to forgive him for the way hed behaved hoping for another chance. Emily looked at him and realised one thing: she would never be with this man again. Her feelings had long since faded. She told him so. When he left, Emily sighed with relief. She had finally managed to leave the past behind. The future was still ahead of her.
