– Why did you take a minor as a dishwasher?! – the chef of the restaurant Nick was indignant in the office of the director Arthur.
– Polly is twenty-five years old, – he calmly replied.
The petite, pretty girl next to the two-meter, athletically built chef really looked like a schoolgirl. When the flow of visitors decreased, Nick put a plate with mashed potatoes and cutlet in front of Polly.
– Eat, you’ve been working all day. Have you had any food this morning? – he said.
– I feed myself, – she lowered her eyes.
– Nick, there’s a banquet for one hundred people the day after tomorrow. They will discuss the sale and purchase of our restaurant. Don’t let me down, – Arthur came into the kitchen.
– I won’t let you down. But for such a horde we need another dishwasher. The girl can’t cope.
– I’ll manage, – Polly said confidently.
Nick liked the girl more and more. The banquet ended only in the morning. All evening and all night the staff ran around like crazy. Andrew spun like a squirrel in a wheel, Polly did not get out of the sink. In the end, the business was over.
– Tired? – asked the chef.
– Very, – the girl did not deny.
– Come on, I’ll take you home.
– Thank you, – the girl was happy.
– How do you live here? – Nick was amazed to see a house with broken windows.
– The house is under demolition. Everyone was resettled. And my grandmother and I lacked some documents. Grandma passed away six months ago, and I was left alone, – the girl answered.
Nick looked around the apartment with fear: a shabby sofa, a sagging wardrobe and a table on three legs, the fourth corner of which was propped up by a pile of books.
– How can you live here? Pack up, you’re coming to live with me! There is enough space, I have a three-room apartment, – he said.
– And you won’t bother me? – Polly clarified.
– I wouldn’t think of it. I don’t pick on minors, – Nick joked…
Three months passed, a week ago the restaurant changed owners. The new owners decided to turn the facility into fast food. Nick refused to work in this format and quit. Polly left with him.
– Why did you quit?
– I have nothing to do there without you. The man easily picked her up:
– I love you too…
A month later they got married.
