My wife’s parents have three houses in the village. We hint to them to give one to us as a summer house, but they pretend they don’t remember.

My wife has a huge family, they are scattered in several villages. Many of them have husbands, wives and children of their own, which is why there is enough “real estate” in the village. For example, my mother-in-law and father-in-law have three houses in the village. Two next door, they use them as one large plot to take the family, while the remaining house stands, rotting, no one needs it. Everything there is overgrown, no one lives or visits the house. The territory, in fact, just stands. Several times my mother-in-law tried to sell, but who needs it? The village is far away, there is not much to see, and the house needs a lot of investment.

But I like it there. So much so that I discussed with his wife the possibility that her parents will give us a house for the summer cottage. She hoped that it will be, hinted to her mother, but she said that she did not give up hope to sell it and make money from it. But for a year and a half since I suggested we start putting the house in order, everything is still there, no one sells or buys anything.

When my wife told my dad more directly that we would like to stay in that cabin, he asked why we needed that cabin when they had two houses and enough room for everyone. But there’s a difference between staying with my wife’s parents and staying in my wife’s private cabin.

Maybe they’re waiting for us to offer them money. “Buy back” the cottage. My mother-in-law obviously doesn’t want to part with it without money. But I don’t know how much would be okay to offer. My wife and I don’t have much money, otherwise we would have bought a summer house for ourselves elsewhere, and besides, there are plans for repairs if we succeed. And at the same time I’m thinking… Does my mother-in-law have enough conscience to sell anything to her own daughter? I mean, she’s her mother, she’s got to take care of her child somehow and not demand payment for it.

It’s just kind of a dead end with this house.
