I have two children. I never had such problems with my older daughter as I did with my younger one. The thing is that he is afraid of the dark. When you make him go to bed in the evening, you have to turn on the nightlight, and then I turn it off, because it makes my daughter sleep badly, and he would wake up in the middle of the night and start crying.
We tried different methods to get rid of his fear, but it did not go away. And every night my husband, daughter, and I suffered.
My daughter was already going to school at the time and asked me to let her tell her brother a bedtime story. I agreed and, surprisingly, we slept peacefully all night. I breathed a sigh of relief until my son said: “Mom, Dad, did you see a man come to our house last night?” I immediately looked at my husband, and he looked at me in surprise. It’s hard to put into words all the terrible thoughts and emotions that were running through our minds, and then my daughter stopped them and asked me to tell us her story
– “Daddy, mom, I have learned a real secret,” the daughter began solemnly, looking at her brother, who already knew her and smiled victoriously. “One night I woke up and saw a boy by my bed. He was scared and wanted to hide so as not to disturb me, but I stopped him and he told me that there are many boys like him. And they stand by the crib every day and guard the child’s sleep, and they leave only when the sun wakes up. It is difficult to notice them because they hide well!
The good fairy tale that our daughter invented helped our son to start sleeping peacefully and get rid of his fear. And my husband and I used to laugh and tell each other how scared we were and what terrible things we had already thought.
Now I realize how powerful a magic story is and that we shouldn’t forget about it. So, parents, teach your children to believe in goodness and live without fear with the help of fairy tales!
