My Son Isn’t Home? – My Father-in-Law Stood Awkwardly on the Doorstep – Honestly, It’s Probably for the Best He’s Not Here

You know, I just could never get along with my mother-in-law.

At first, we tried living together, but honestly, we only lasted a month before things fell apart.

Funnily enough, I got on quite well with my father-in-law; we found common ground pretty quickly. But his wife? She never liked me from the get-go. You could just tell.

Youre using the wrong saucepan! shed yell at me, Youre boiling the potatoes all wrong

And these sorts of complaints were non-stop, always aimed at me.

So, eventually, we moved out into a rented flat, and thats where I found out I was pregnant. My father-in-law actually stepped in and told my mother-in-law to lay off me, for the babys sake.

Shes a nightmare, that woman, hed say to me, Had a bit of a temper in her youth, but now shes gone completely off her rocker. I married her because she waited for me when I was off doing National Service, and I suppose I just got used to her.

Honestly, during my pregnancy she did calm down a bit and kept to herself. But the second our daughter was born, all the drama kicked off again. Our little girl arrived about five weeks early, but thankfully she was healthy.

Thats not your baby, my mother-in-law said to my husband.

Are you blind? Dont you get why she was born early? That child isnt yours!

Thank goodness my husband always had my back. He stuck up for me every time, even ended up throwing his mum out of the house on the last occasion.

She refused to meet her granddaughter and wouldnt make peace with us. My father-in-law still visited often, bringing gifts for the baby, although hed get a good telling off at home for it.

I dont know what sort of daytime telly the old man was watching, but when our daughter turned three, he decided to take her out for a walkand secretly got a DNA test done. He wanted to teach his wife a lesson.

Is my son at home? my father-in-law asked, looking a bit lost at our doorstep. Actually, its probably better he isnt. Ive just picked up the DNA results. Turns out my wife was right all along. Whose child have you had? That girl isnt ours!

I was shell-shocked. I had no idea about any DNA test and I knew for certain my husband was the father.

So, we went and got our own tests done, andjust as I thoughtmy husband was confirmed as the father. But heres the real kicker: it turned out my father-in-law wasnt actually my husbands biological dad.

So much for waiting faithfully while I was away in the Army! he fumed.

They ended up getting divorced in their old age, even though she begged him for forgiveness for ages.

Before you go blaming other people, maybe its worth taking a good look at yourself first.

What do you make of all that?
