I met my husband at university. At the time we were both 18 and students. I noticed my future husband at once, he was distinguished by his strength, intelligence and, most importantly, kindness. At first we were friends, but I soon realized that my feelings for him were much deeper than just friendship. After a few months we became a couple. I still remember that time fondly and make sure that my college years were the best. I was proposed to by Jack a year later, after which we got married. We didn’t have enough money for a big celebration, so we celebrated the event in a small family circle.
In my second year of college Jack started working. At first we lived in a dormitory, and our own apartment was a dream, but we were sure that sooner or later it would come true. And so it happened. After my grandmother’s death I inherited a small fortune and Jack managed to save some money. It was enough to pay the mortgage for a two-bedroom apartment, since we were planning on adding to the family in the near future.
We lived together for ten years, but we never had any children. A few years ago Jack had a problem at work: when the firm got into trouble, its owner made my husband, who was the chief accountant there, guilty of both debts and black accounting. After the trial, Jack was completely unjustly sent to jail for four years. We fought for a long time, looked for lawyers, but it got us nowhere. The documents were drawn up in such a way that Jack came out guilty, although he was just following the orders of his boss. It was hard, but I supported my spouse as much as I could, only a year later it turned out that I myself needed support…
My mother-in-law came to my house and told me that I wasn’t going to live here anymore. She blamed me for what happened to Jack and also said that he had bought the apartment with his own money and I had no rights to it. I just didn’t know what to say, because I hadn’t expected such cruelty from my mother-in-law.
It turned out that before the trial my husband gave his mother a power of attorney and with her help she got a bank statement showing that the mortgage payments were coming from Jack’s card. My mother-in-law says that these documents are enough for the court to accept that I did not participate in the purchase of the apartment. I am confused and do not know how to act.
