Lately I’ve been having problems at work, so money isn’t much, I had to save up. I’ve been laid off half my rate and stripped of my bonuses, so I started looking for a new job, deciding that I would live frugally until my money problems were solved.
I was going to turn 28 this year. Friends and family knew I was having some financial difficulties, so no one was offended when I said I wouldn’t celebrate my birthday this year. But my sister invited me over for an evening out and I felt bad about refusing, so I agreed.
That day I went to an interview to get a new job. The interview went very well, I was very pleased with myself. I got a good position with a decent salary. I went to the restaurant in great spirits. There was a surprise waiting for me in the restaurant.
Not only my sister, but all my friends and close relatives were there. Everyone was in a great mood, all congratulating and hugging me. They handed me an envelope with a large sum of money as a general gift.
They had ordered in advance, so as soon as I sat down, the food began to be served. It had been a long time since I had been in a restaurant and I missed the fine food. All of my favorite dishes appeared on the table in the blink of an eye. My friends had made sure that the menu would meet all my preferences. I was touched by the attention.
Being in the company of nice people and consuming delicious food made me happy. It seemed like a black streak in life was over. We sat and chatted heartily, ate and drank wine. We started to leave late in the evening.
When the waiter brought the bill, I had to literally fight my way out of the hands of my loved ones. They wanted to pay for everything themselves, but I did not let them. When I paid the bill out of the money I had given them, I still had a decent amount left in my hands. Everyone was happy with the evening and the company, going home with smiles on their faces. I am happy that I have such good friends and family. I am grateful to them for such a wonderful surprise. It was one of the best holidays of my life.
