My Second Husband’s Daughter Moved In With Us, and Her Reaction Left Me Speechless

At the age of 52, I have found my true love and we have recently married, despite it being a later stage in life for both of us. My husband has an adult daughter, Abigail, who is 25 and also a mother herself. After recently going through a divorce, she’s faced a number of challenges, and has decided to move closer to her father for support.

Initially, she and I only spoke over video calls, exchanging polite greetings from afar. Now that she lives nearby, it is clear she struggles to accept me. I have reached out and tried to have an open conversation, but she sees me as a rival for her father’s attention. She feels that, had I not appeared in his life, she would have continued living with him in their old family home.

In an effort to resolve things, I suggested Abigail move in with us, since we have plenty of space in the house. Surprisingly, she told me her father was against the idea, saying it was because we have just married. I decided to speak with my husband, Peter, and he confirmed her words were true. He doesn’t want his daughter to witness any potential disagreements or issues that might arise as our new family finds its footing.

I have absolutely no issue with Peter supporting his daughter; I believe its natural for any father to stand by his child. What I did not expect were her accusationsthat I am the source of all her problems. I wish she could see that I love her father for who he is, not for any material gain. She seems to think that, without me, her father’s financial support would be directed solely to her and her daughter. The reality is, Peter does whatever he can to help them, but even then, making ends meet is a constant challenge.

I genuinely want to maintain an amicable relationship with my stepdaughter, but her negative view of me makes it difficult. I sincerely hope that with time, patience, and understanding, we can eventually find common ground and build a caring, supportive family together.
