My dad lives in some kind of past, in which he only studied for two years at a technical school, dropped out, and through acquaintances, through roundabout ways he is now the boss at the factory. And the fact that he had to work his way up from the bottom is nothing to him. On the contrary, he thinks that, having started as a security guard in the company, I will be able to rise to the position of almost the director.
Dad does not understand that these are different times – higher education matters. You can end up working without a major, but at the job interview they always ask you if you have a college degree. For some store manager it may not be very important, but I don’t want to become anything. And I certainly don’t want to go to work as a security guard. I have a brain, I want to work with it. But my parents are against it.
Dad said that since I failed the first time I got in and could not go to the budget, then next year I have to blame myself. Either I manage to get in, and I’ll be on my own, or, again, go to work, as parents think stupid tuition.
I really hope I can get in on my own, but I feel like my parents just don’t see any potential in me. They think being a security guard will get me into an office anyway. But there’s no such thing. You can’t become a valued employee without a college degree. I just wish my parents understood that one day.
