My Parents Abandoned Me Because I Wanted to Start a Family, While They Only Wanted Me to Grow and Build a Business!

My relationship with my parents has taken a sharp turn for the worse ever since I started making decisions for myself, rather than following their guidance. From early childhood, they meticulously controlled every aspect of my life, making sure I achieved top grades at school and only took part in activities they deemed worthwhile. Friendships as a child were never encouraged, and any accomplishments were simply expected, never celebrated.

Their ideal of a “perfect child” led me into a joyless existence, as my dreams and interests were often disregarded. Reading fiction was strictly forbidden, and I was only allowed to play with educational games and toys. Even my choice of university was made for me, and although I did brilliantly academically, the pressure to be flawless became increasingly overwhelming.

In the midst of all this strict control, I found lovehis name is Matthew. Aware of my parents’ disapproval, we kept our relationship a secret, terrified of what their reaction might be. Eventually, Matthew and I decided to get married quietly, as far out of sight as possible from their ever-watchful eyes. As expected, my parents were livid, rebuking and lecturing me for failing to be the “perfect child” they had so carefully moulded.

When I became pregnant, their dissatisfaction only grew stronger. Thankfully, Matthews parents were supportive and open-hearted, while mine kept their distance. Even after the birth of our child, they refused to congratulate us or meet their grandchild. Instead, they used the occasion to express disappointment in my life choices, reinforcing their belief that I’d ruined my future.

Their hurtful words wounded me deeply, and despite my attempts to reach out to my mum, she wouldnt respond, leaving me feeling abandoned by those who should have stood by me. It became clear that their desire for control had overshadowed their love, choosing to break off contact with me simply because I wanted to live for myself and find happiness.

As time passed, I gradually accepted the possibility that our relationship may never heal. I stopped hoping for reconciliation, recognizing that their rigid expectations and my need for self-fulfillment could never truly align. Although being estranged from my parents is painful, I’ve found solace in the love and support of Matthew and his family, who accept me for who I am. My journey towards happiness has been far from easy, but I’ve learned that my joy shouldn’t depend on anyone else’s expectations. I will continue to build a life filled with love and acceptance, even if it means leaving behind the suffocating standards of my past.
