My Mother-in-Law Visited, and After She Left, the Dog Started Growling and Scratching the Ground—I Dug Where He Barked and Found Something Horrifying

My mother-in-law came to visit, and after she left, our dog started growling and clawing at the ground. I began digging where he barkedand found something horrifying.
My husband and I live in the countryside, peaceful and quiet. He works on a farm, while I take care of the garden and the house. His mother lives in the city with her youngest sonand honestly, weve never gotten along. From day one, she never accepted me. She gave me judgmental looks and snide remarks, but I put up with itfor my husbands sake. The distance meant we rarely saw each other anyway.
Then, out of the blue, she announced she wanted to “escape the citys stress” and came to stay with us for a week. She said shed missed us. I had a bad feeling, but my husband insisted.
Right from the start, she criticised everything. The soup was too salty, the curtains werent ironed, and apparently, I was raising our five-year-old daughter all wrong. She stirred up arguments constantly, and in the end, even managed to make my husband and me fight. One night, I broke down in tears. I just wanted it to be over.
When she finally left, I felt relieved. But the next day, something strange happened.
Our dog, Maxusually gentle and cleverstarted acting aggressively. He growled at nothing in the garden, ran in circles, then clawed at the earth near one of the flowerbeds, barking and digging with his paws. I tried to pull him away, but he refused, staring at me before continuing his strange behaviour.
The next day, he did the same. I couldnt take it anymoreI grabbed a spade. My heart pounded. A dog doesnt act like that without reason. Something had scared him. I started digging where he barked.
Suddenly, the earth caved in. I froze. Sticking out from the ground was a black sack, tightly knotted. Hands shaking, I pulled it out.
Insidea foul stench and bizarre objects: clumps of hair, an old childs dress (not my daughters!), a doll with its head torn off, and a bundle of photos of me, my husband, and our little girl with the eyes scratched out.
A chill ran through me. This was dark magica curse. Who would do such a thing?
There was only one answermy mother-in-law. She was the only one whod been here, the only one who couldve dug the hole while I was in the kitchen or with our child.
I didnt know what to do. I took the sack to the church. The vicar called it a “curse meant to break the family.”
I dont usually believe in this sort of thing, but the dogs behaviour, her constant jabs, the way shed driven a wedge between my husband and meit all fitted together in a terrifying way.
Since then, Ive forbidden her from setting foot in our home. I told my husband everything. At first, he didnt believe me, but when he saw the photos and the sackwhich Id kept as proofhe went quiet for a long time.
Now, Max sleeps by the door, as if standing guard.
I dont know what my mother-in-law truly intended, but one things certainshell never come near us again.
Am I overreacting? Or is there something even darker behind this?
