Two years have passed since I got married, and from the very start, my mother-in-law never accepted me. She believes her son deserves someone better than me and does everything possible to drive us apart.
At first, I tried to ignore her comments, but over time, her criticism became increasingly frequent and hurtful. No matter what I did, it was never good enough for her.
My husband knew everything happening around us. Yet he kept assuring me it would passthat his mother would eventually accept me and that deep down, she was a kind person.
One morning, she stormed into my room and dumped a bucket of cold water on me, yelling, *”Wake up, lazybones!”* I jolted awake in shock, drenched and utterly stunned.
When I asked why she did it, she snapped with authority, *”In my house, no one sleeps past lunch! Everyone wakes up early!”*
I checked the clock6:30 AM, Sunday. I couldnt stay silent. Trembling with anger, I shot back, *”I have the right to rest! This is my only day off.”*
She made no effort to understand. Glaring, she hissed, *”What right? As long as you live under my roof, forget your rights! My rules here!”*
That was the final straw. She had crossed every line, and this time, I knew I had to act.

When I told my husband everything, I was on the edgebut also determined.
I explained how humiliating his mothers behavior was and how it made me feel.
I said I couldnt endure this treatment anymore, especially from someone who shouldve been a maternal figure, not a tyrant.
I wasnt asking him to choose between usjust to take a firm stand.
I needed his support and for him to set boundaries with his mother.
He stayed silent for a while.
Then, finally, he looked me in the eyes and said, *”Youre right. You and I come first. We need to leave and live our own lives.”*
We decided to move out together and start fresh, far from his mothers toxic influence.
