Growing up, my mom never let me have pets. I wanted a dog, but my mother screamed that the house would stink of dog and no one would get up early to walk it.
One day I brought home a hamster from school, and my mom made me carry it home in tears to a classmate who gave it to me.
Mom was against fish and turtles and anything that needed to be taken care of. She thought I was too lazy and irresponsible, and it was also like she didn’t like animals herself. She always chased the backyard cats away so they wouldn’t hang around our driveway.
As an adult, I got a cat. It was a very beautiful Bengal cat. I bought it for a lot of money, and I wanted to get some money back through the use of kittens. I found a girl on the Internet who had a cat, and then I waited for the kittens as well. Each took two kittens. I sold one right away, and the girl for some reason was in no hurry to take. And she kept growing up.
I had no plans to keep the two, so the idea came somehow by itself – it was possible to take the kitty to mom and dad.
As always, she wasn’t thrilled. She and Dad had a wonderful life together, and here was a cat, a litter box, food, and the extra expense of everything. Mom threatened to take the cat outside, but Dad promised she wouldn’t let that happen.
I really was afraid that Mom, with her temper, might do something, but a four-month-old cat took a week and a half to fall in love with Mom.
– She came and purred … – said mom dreamily, remembering how the baby got acquainted with them and began to sleep on her feet. – That’s how I regretted depriving you of it as a child. Dogs, of course, are horrible stinkers, but cats… I think you can still deal with them.
Now my mother can’t imagine her life without a cat. There are unpleasant moments, there is some schadka home and constantly littered sofas, but Mom and Dad are delighted that someone is always waiting for them at home and comes to respect the womb purring.
So there you go. They just had to try it and now they’re real cat people, just like me!
