My Husband and I Had a Huge Argument Over Hosting Pajama Parties

My husband and I have been together for a decade, with six of those years spent as husband and wife. In that time, we’ve welcomed two sons into our livesour eldest is nine, and our little one is just five months old.

We live in a modest two-bedroom flat that I inherited from my grandmother. It’s old, a bit worn around the edges, but its mine. We make do.

Our eldest has an upcoming birthday, and I thought wed celebrate at home this year since moneys tight at the moment. Thats when the trouble started. My family cant make it, but my husbands relatives are all clamouring to come at once, andeven worsethey plan to spend the night. Where on earth am I supposed to put them all?

Ive never been comfortable with overnight guests. Visits for a few hours are fine, but not staying the night. If theyre so keen to be here, the local inn doesnt shut its doorstheres always room somewhere else.

This led to a huge row between us, so much so that we’ve decided to live apart for a while. But am I really being unreasonable? Part of me stands firm because, to be honest, my in-laws are hardly the cleanest lotthey bathe just once a week. Imagine the stench lingering in my little flat if they all sleep over. And I have children to think of! Why spend the night, anyway, when they live close by in Oxford?
