My Dog Was Staring at Something Under the Bed—I Froze When I Saw What Had Caught His Attention

**Diary Entry**
My dog was staring at something under the bed, and I froze when I realized what had caught his attention.
Lately, Ive spent so many nights studying that Ive been utterly exhausted. Sometimes I collapse onto the bed without even changing, falling asleep in seconds. I havent been giving my dog, Baxter, enough attention.
Yesterday, I was especially worn out and decided to nap for a few hours. I woke with a jolt when Baxter started barking. A shiver of fear ran through mehe was right in front of me, and it was so loud.
At first, I thought he just needed to go outside, so I grabbed his leash. But he didnt budge. He lay on the floor, eyes locked on something beneath the bed, as if fixated on something invisible.
Maybe one of his toys had rolled under there, and he couldnt reach it. I stepped forward to help.
Then, when I peered under the bed, my heart nearly stopped. I couldnt believe my eyes

Baxter was still staring, unblinking. I crept closer and took a quick glance beneath the bed.
Something small and trembling darted into viewa tiny squirrel, wide-eyed and terrified.
It must have sneaked in somewhere, too frightened to move with Baxter watching. It looked exhausted, its little paws shaking.
I spoke softly, not wanting to scare it further, while trying to figure out what to do.
How had it even gotten into my room? The whole thing felt surreal.
After a few tense seconds, the squirrel suddenly bolted, scrambling past me and leaping toward the open window.
I sighed, slightly embarrassed by the whole ordeal, but I couldnt help smiling. At least the little thing had found its way out.
