My husband and I were stunned when our daughter Monica announced her desire to get married. She was only 18 years old. There was no way to convince Monica to change her mind. Monica was questioned by my mother-in-law:
– Granddaughter, are you expecting a child?
– No, grandma.
Monica’s fiancé was only two years older than her. We discussed it with the groom’s parents and agreed to hold the wedding in our house. Monica was not happy.
– This is primitive! Let’s do something more modern.
We argued for a long time. Then we decided to hold a wedding reception in a cafe. Monica chose the most expensive option. We and the groom’s parents were not happy.
Monica started to cry:
– We are getting married once in a lifetime.
We took a loan. So did the groom’s parents. They bought a diamond ring that Monica asked for. My daughter and I chose a stunning dress.
We wanted to go to the registry office in our old car, but Monica was not happy.
– Rent a jeep!
My father tried to explain that it’s expensive!
– I really wanted to.
We hired a jeep for our daughter and son-in-law’s wedding. When the wedding day came, we were psychologically and physically exhausted. The wedding cost us a lot of money. Monica and her husband divorced six months later.
Monica just did not like being married. She had many claims to her husband. I managed to calm my daughter down. But my husband was very worried. My mother-in-law was relieved that Monica was not pregnant.
I remembered how I got married. I wore a beautiful top and skirt. My fiancé was waiting for me at the registry office with a bouquet. We were married for 20 years, we had a child. As a result, no big wedding affects family life.
I am not against weddings at all. However, everything should be in moderation. I hope that next time our daughter will be more careful.
