My dad supported me in my idea, but my mom was so offended that she hasn’t spoken to me in a week.

I’m a big guy now, I’m almost twenty-one. I’ll be graduating from university very soon, I have a job. So I might still live with my parents, but I don’t ask for anything financially. On the contrary, I try to help them, because I don’t understand what’s so terrible about a tattoo.

As a normal son, I decided to tell my mom and dad that I had long wanted a tattoo and had already found a salon, chosen a sketch and decided on a place. And my dad was thoughtful and doubtful, but he supported me – at that age I can decide for myself, so he’s not against it. My mother, on the other hand, was terribly offended. She said that she used to brag to everyone that her kid wasn’t “like that,” that he didn’t fill his head with stupid things and his body with tattoos. Now how is she going to look the staff in the eye when I get a tattoo? So she’s against it.

Dad says to ignore Mom’s words – I’m her reason to be proud anyway, and a tattoo won’t change anything. But it’s pretty hard to think that way when she hasn’t spoken to me in a week. Avoids the house, only cooks for Daddy, and pretends I’m not there. Expects me to come in and apologize for my idea and give up the tattoo.

But I already got it, actually. I showed it to my dad, but not to my mom yet. Maybe when she sees it, she’ll be more accepting, but what if she gets even angrier about such nonsense? She’s just old school, the kind of person who thinks, “That’s for life, you’re making yourself ugly.” There’s no telling what she’ll do when she finds out I’ve stuffed up against her will.
