My brother has always been a painfully shy boy, ever since we were children. Over the years, nothing seemed to change. At school, he hardly made any friends, even though Thomas was a genuinely kind-hearted lad. Because of his quiet nature, my brother could never properly approach girls, either. When he got to university, his study group consisted entirely of blokes. The girl he fancied ended up with someone else, all because Thomas couldnt bring himself to act.
Despite his poor luck in matters of the heart, Thomas did rather well for himself in his career. After he finished at university, my brother managed to land a stable job, bought himself a small flat in London, and even began helping out the family. Years slipped by, yet he still failed to find a decent girl. I even tried to introduce him to some of my own friends, but it was hopeless. The girls all agreedthere simply wasnt much to talk about with Thomas, nice chap as he was.
But then, out of the blue, there was one woman who managed to capture my brothers heart. Thomas was absolutely radiant with happiness; it was almost dazzling to see. As for me, Id rather stay single than date someone like her. His new girlfriend works behind the till at a local supermarket, and she has two children from a previous marriage. She hasnt had much education and doesnt even have a place of her own to live. I truly have no idea why my brother is so smitten.
When Thomas introduced her to our parents at the family home in Oxford, our mother nearly fainted. She promptly asked Thomass guest to leave. My heart aches for my brother: he spent so many years alone, and now that hes finally found a girl, she just isnt worthy of him. Thomas has refused to listen to our parentslove is blind, after all. I can only hope my brother realises his mistake soon and leaves her.
