So, you know, I live with my mum and juggle two jobs at the moment. I pay for my own groceries and bills, since all of mums pension goes towards supporting my older brother. I work pretty hard, putting away whatever I can for a flat of my own, but honestly, balancing all the bills and still saving enough for my dream place is a tricky business. Still, I stick to my plan and keep going, staying disciplined and focused on my goal.
Just recently, my brother asked me for a loan so he could put down a deposit abroad. Deep down, I knew Id never see that money again, so I calmly told him no and explained I was saving up for my own home. Of course, he didnt take it kindly and went straight to mum to complain about it.
My brothers finances are all over the placehes a taxi driver and does odd jobs, so his income is up and down. Plus, he and his wife are always splurging on things they dont really need, like fancy takeaway and luxury items. They barely manage to get by most months, and theyve got three kids with no stable place to live.
Meanwhile, Im really careful with my money and stick to my old phone, while my brothers wife always wants the newest gadget on credit. When I refused to lend him cash for his deposit, he got offended and made mum feel bad about the whole thing.
Mum tried to convince me to help him out, even though he still owes me money from before. She made a generous offer, saying shed sign over her flat to me if I lent him the money. But I turned her downI didnt want to be waiting around for mums inheritance to sort out my future.
Mum respected my decision in the end, but things got messy when my brother and his whole family decided to move in with her to save money. They didnt even think about my situation, leaving me suddenly without a roof over my head. Mum assumed Id be alright since I have some savings, and my brother completely cut me off.
Despite all the drama and tension at home, Im not guilty about my choice. Honestly, I think I did the right thing, staying true to my values and putting my future first while looking after the money Ive worked so hard to save.
