My Boyfriend’s Mother Humiliated Me in Public, Unaware That I Was Dating Her Son.

Hey love, let me tell you what happened with Marks mum its a proper drama.

Emily Clarke and I first bumped into each other at the little offlicence down the road from his mums house in Bolton, where I was doing a few shifts after school. I was nineteen and deadset on being on my own financially, tucking a bit of cash away each week, so I grabbed any extra shift I could. My parents were chuffed: I was studying, working, and could still afford a new bike or a weekend away. Mark thought my parttime gig was a solid start, even though he wasnt doing any work himself.

We gradually got closer. Mark would bring me a bunch of daisies, Id spoil him with chocolates, and sometimes wed stay late in the shop, chatting away while the aisles were empty.

That cozy bubble only lasted about two weeks. Then Marks mum, Susan Thompson, turned the whole thing upside down and I was mortified, so I didnt want to see Mark any more in fact, I was downright ashamed.

One evening during my closing shift she walked in with Mark. She didnt notice him wink at me and us sharing a grin. When she got to the till, the cash register jammed and the customer in line started fussing. She went on about how shed shopped there a million times and blamed me for trying to pull a fast one, calling me a fraud because she thought Id hidden her receipt on purpose.

See, Mark? Thats why you need to hit the books hard, she sniffed. So you never have to stand here mumbling about a stuck till again!

It was mortifying, especially with a line of regulars behind her whod probably spread the story around the next time they popped in.

Mark begged me to forgive his mum, saying shed just had a bad day, but I couldnt. I walked out, quit the job, and, thank goodness, landed a role overseas. The pays a bit lower, but the hours are better and I dont have to deal with people like Susan.

Honestly, every job has its place, especially when youre a student with few options. Its nice when some folks have confident parents who think their kids destined for greatness, but that doesnt mean life cant hand a graduate a stint behind a till.

Just thought Id share its been a wild ride, but Im getting through it. Talk soon!
