Murad and Anna met at university and started dating. Anna was not from his “circle”, and according to their customs Murad had to marry the one chosen by his parents. But Murad had plans to marry Anna. When the parents found out about it, the mother came to Anna’s dormitory, threatened her and pulled her hair, saying “stay away from our son”.
Anna was a fragile girl and could not defend herself. When Murad saw her in such a state and in tears, he was furious. He went home and quarreled with his mother. His father kicked him out for disrespecting his mother. He moved to Anna’s dormitory. They applied to the registry office the next day. And after receiving diplomas they held a ceremony and moved to the capital. Aunt Anna lived there and took them in.
Murad and Anna found a job and soon rented an apartment. Murad’s parents did not communicate with them after that quarrel. They did not congratulate their son on the birth of their daughter, and even the birth of their grandson did not change anything. But Anna’s parents and aunt helped them a lot.
Anna and Murat opened a shop, then another, then a cafe, then a sewing workshop. Ten years later, with the help of their parents and aunt Anna, who helped them with the down payment, they bought an apartment.
Soon Murad’s family started to get in touch. His older brother came to visit them. He was well received by the young people. Then Murad’s sister came to visit with her family. They were also well received. They were pleased. And finally, his parents came too. Murad and Anna met them very hospitably. They never mentioned the insults of the past, and everything seemed to be fine. But the mother-in-law could not restrain herself again and did something…
One day Murad and Anna returned from work, and the younger son was sitting in the corner and crying. It turned out that the mother-in-law beat him because he did not want to have dinner. Murad asked his mother not to hit the children. She did not seem to argue. But the next day she again raised her hand on the child for tattling. That day Anna returned from work early and had to deal with the situation. When Anna told her mother-in-law not to touch her children anymore, her mother-in-law tried to grab Anna’s hair again, but she did not count on the fact that Anna is not that fragile and defenseless girl anymore. She grabbed her mother-in-law’s hand and squeezed it hard, looked menacingly into her eyes and said:
– If you raise your hand against me or my children again, I will break it.
In the evening Murad and his father returned home. The mother went to complain, showed the bruise on her arm, but the child also ran up to the father and told him what really happened. Both Murad and the father knew that it was her fault, so they scolded her. The father did not want to lose his son again, because they had not communicated with him for so many years because of his wife. And Murad’s mother finally understood how to behave in her house, otherwise she could easily lose her hand.
