Three months ago my life, unexpectedly for me, changed. I had everything: a great man, a daughter, a dog. And then one day my husband told me that he had met someone else and was leaving me for her. Nothing depended on me, of course, so I accepted everything as it was.
At that time I already understood that it would be difficult. After all, I would have to earn my own living and provide for my child, which was not easy with my small salary. One day at the end of November, when I had put my daughter to bed and went to walk the dog myself, I met a woman.
The weather was November: very cold, it was raining. This woman was sitting alone, she was of retirement age. There was a bag next to her on the bench. It was obvious that the woman was cold, so I approached her and asked if there was anything I could do to help.
The woman looked at me with tired eyes and said that she had been asked to leave the house. I felt very sorry for the old woman, so I invited her in. When I got home, I gave her a warm plaid, brewed some delicious hot tea, and poured supper.
It turned out that her name was Barbara, now she herself wanted to tell me her life story.
My new acquaintance has a daughter. The woman raised and educated her herself: her husband passed away a long time ago. Barbara did everything she could to make sure her daughter’s life was going well. She worked a lot, but, perhaps, it was because her mother spent most of her time at work that her daughter grew up ungrateful and did not appreciate her mother’s work at all.
The daughter did not work anywhere, lived for many years on her mother’s money, and today she said that because of her she could not arrange her life, because she lived with her in a one-room apartment and could not get married because of that. She told her mother to pack her things and go live with her family in the village, because the daughter at 35 years old is not even married, her mother is in her way.
That evening I left Barbara at my place to spend the night.
In the morning my unexpected guest wanted to leave, but I offered her to stay with us. For some reason I never doubted this woman for a minute. I could go to work, and Barbara would sit with my daughter and walk our dog. The old woman gladly agreed to my offer.
It turned out that Barbara had her own house out of town, a nice dacha, but there was no heating. We formed a wonderful relationship. She even replaced my mother. My daughter adored her, called her Grandma and treated her like one.
And then we all went to Barbara’s dacha together. The dacha was in good condition. We were surrounded by a forest, a beautiful lake nearby. I was delighted with the beauty of nature. The house was nice, well maintained, one could see that she was a real hostess.
We were very happy. Suddenly Barbara’s neighbor came up to us, we talked. When he heard what fate befell her, he said that the neighbors would quickly make her a good stove, then she would be able to warm and cook food at home.
Barbara was fortunate to have people on her life’s path who were willing to help at such a difficult time. We fell in love with this beautiful woman and asked her to live with us and help us, and in the summer we would all come to our dacha together. She gladly agreed.
That’s how both Barbara and I lost our family, but we found a new one, and we are truly happy.
