Melissa Kicked Out Her Daughter-in-Law Because She Was Convinced Her Grandchild Wasn’t Really Hers

Three years later, she regrets it bitterly

Margaret yelled at her daughter-in-law, Take your child and get out. That is not our child. And William trusted you so much! All Emily could do was hold her baby and cry. Throughout the pregnancy, Margaret had insisted the baby wasnt her sons. William had always been a mummys boy, utterly under her thumb his whole life. Not even marriage could change that, and poor Emily had no power to alter the situation, except to look at her husband with tearful eyes.

Will, why do you let your mum find fault with me over everything? What did I ever do wrong? Just be patient, love. Its Mum were talking about! But it was his mothers harsh wordsnot even believing the child was her grandchildthat became the last straw. There was nothing more to be done. Emily packed up everything, gathered her little ones things, and left for her parents house. But what hurt most was that, as she walked away that day, William didnt even try to stop her.

His mother felt triumphant, even smug. At last, she could return to her normal life. She missedand tried to recapturethose evenings when William would come home from work, theyd sit for supper, have a cup of tea, and chat together.

But one day, something completely unexpected happened. William was on his way home late from work when a stranger mugged him, leaving him unconscious. Tragically, William never woke up again, passing away not long after. Margaret nearly lost her mind with grief. Every evening, she would go into her sons room, touch his belongings, and weep for what was gone

In the meantime, Emily was thriving. She was glowing with happiness, hurrying to the local nursery to collect her son. Shed earned a promotion at work, her new partner would make her dinner, and her little boy filled her with prideeven at such a young age. One day, Emily spotted her former mother-in-law, and was shocked by what she saw; she looked almost homeless, a mere shadow of her former self.

Oh, thats William. Yes, William Margaret sobbed, Please forgive me. I destroyed your familyand my own as well. I must be the worst person in the world Emily felt a deep pity for her old mother-in-law. Now, from time to time, she allows the grandmother to see her grandson.
